What words describe you the best? How do you see yourself? How do others see you? Most importantly, how does GOD define you?

Often we are defined by nouns. Titles, talents, race, gender, and family affiliations account for most of these descriptions. They are usually accurate, but not complete.

To complete them we use adjectives to amplify certain attributes, affections, or accomplishments.

However, the ultimate definition is in the use of verbs. Verbs refer to action and movement; and the direction they are taking us.

Truth – “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.” James 1:22.

Love – ”If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” John 14:15.

Faith -”But someone may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          James 2:18.

Character -” Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” Luke 6:46.

Purpose – “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:10.

The way that we view life makes an extraordinary difference on how we live it.

Some see life as a whirlwind of events of both good and bad, and then it’s over.

Others see it as a struggle in which the ultimate escape is death.

Life by some can be defined as a construction job to present to GOD at the end.

Reconstruction of their own life, and that of those around them becomes a life long ambition.

War for souls projects meaning to their purpose both in this life and the next.

Others see themselves as an arrow shot by GOD to reach the bulls-eye of His ultimate purpose.

For others it’s a test of your true heart toward GOD and others.

But . . . how do you define life?

I hope that the following steps will launch you into GOD’s definition of life for you.

           First, invite JESUS into your list of needs and wants. The list can be big or small. Here’s some things possibly on your list – a need for hope . . . love . . . joy . . . peace . . . purpose . . . inner healing . . . breaking of addictions and bondages . . . strength . . . perseverance . . . relationships . . . direction . . . forgiveness . . . a new beginning.

Ask JESUS to come in. He loves you. He wants to help. He has the wisdom and power. He knows why He Created you. He’s not here to judge but to help.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Revelation 3:20.

“O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!Psalm 34:8.

Second, allow JESUS to be number one on your list. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you”. Matthew 6:33.

As you honor Him, He will honor you. As you have a contrite and humble heart, you become pliable for His blessings to flow through. As you walk close to Him, you’ll see through His eyes and feel through His heart. His wisdom will guide you, His hand will protect you, and His SPIRIT will teach you.

Your potential will begin to surface and become a reality. He’ll move you from victim to victor.

Third, remove all the ungodly things from your list. Some things must leave in bunches, because they are spiritually connected, while others can be released one at a time. Sin is always destructive and the world is always deceptive.

It can be anything from a bad habit to a bad friend. Worldly music is a delusion mixed with pride . . . and quite dangerous. We’re good at excusing our sin or talking ourselves out of the conviction of the HOLY SPIRIT.

“and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:32.

“Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. 2 Timothy 2:20, 21.

Fourth, JESUS wants to become the entire list. We can ask GOD to bless our list or ask Him to bless us in His List for our lives; plus anything that we want that won’t interfere with His purpose.

Our hearts have several compartments – goals, relationships, ministries, and responsibilities. He wants to live in every room . . . each moment . . . each relationship . . . each event . . . and dream with you, while giving counsel.

Some day we’ll regret everything that we held back and refused to surrender. Surrendering adds blessings to this life and rewards to the next.

“Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.” Revelation 22:12.

Fifth, May GOD manifest Himself in each item on your list. Deuteronomy 28:1-14 proclaims this promise.

I often state that GOD cares about everything in your life, because He cares about all of you. However, remember that your list became His list.

Don’t limit GOD. His Power, His Wisdom, and His Sovereignty are carried by His love for you.

There are multiple things in our lives that want to shape us in who we are. The key is to let JESUS embellish them for our good and the good of others.

Environmental Norms play a big role. Our culture, race, gender, religion, education, career, family, and generation we grew up in all play a significant role.

Take the good and use it for good. Take the bad and use it for good. See these norms through the eyes of Scripture; there will be good and bad. Many Christians cripple their walk with GOD with a bias and belief system based on pride and nostalgia, instead of upon GOD’s WORD.

Your soul or your personality type also contribute greatly to who you are and how you accomplish GOD’s will for your life. Each personality has an equal amount of positives and negatives. Remember that your personality is not an excuse for your negative attributes. Just know that the closer you walk with JESUS the more the positives shine, and visa versa.

It states in the Parable of the Talents, that the LORD gives you talents according to your abilities. Talents are heaven’s investments to help you. Thus, know your abilities. I’m not good at most things, but I do know the abilities He has given me. I don’t despise me for my lack, but seek Him in what I know I can do. Time’s too short in trying to be what I’m not.

Of course GOD’s Will in your life is of utmost importance. His second best is far less than His best for you. It will take work, sacrifice, and perseverance. But to squander it, is to squander your very existence.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5.

A righteous life – Let me challenge you. Get the sin out of your life for three months and see the difference. Or remove that one besetting sin for three months and see what happens. First, peace and joy will become the norm. Clarity on decision making will improve. And blessings will begin to flow.

Let the Mind of CHRIST captivate your life. Abandon the choices of the world. The world wants to conform you. Let GOD transform you from Glory to Glory. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.Romans 12:2.

Realize generational blessings and curses (Exodus 34:6,7). You need to break the curses that have afflicted your ancestors, so that you and your descendants are free. Likewise, acknowledge the blessings you’ve received, walk in them, and pass them down to your children.

Never forget that others prayed for you before and after you were saved. Appreciate them and follow their example.

Proper choices in life make a big difference. The bigger the decision the more prayer, fasting, and counsel of others is necessary. Never make a huge decision, while living in sin.

Three choices that can be a blessing or curse are – how you handle money, who you marry, and how you take care of your health.

All of us have key people in our lives – some for the better and some for the worse. Learn immensely from both, appreciate or forgive, grow in wisdom, and move on in life.

Then there are key events. Blessings, heartbreaks, accomplishments, and failures are all tools for deeper sanctification. “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28.

There’s a psychological term called fixation where people get stuck in life because of a traumatic experience. There are legitimate ministries that can help. Time doesn’t heal. JESUS heals along with Scriptural tools. It takes a deep work with follow up.

Let’s allow the LORD to use each major event in our lives as a building block for humility and strength, for empathy and discernment, and for grace and character.

Your life is a definition of your love, character, and inward achievement. The world will define you wrongly, but GOD allows you to define yourself in His Court of Grace and Justice.

Remember, nouns and adjectives may be fine, but it’s the action of verbs that are your resume before GOD.

The steps presented can help guide you into a mature walk in CHRIST.

The pieces can fit into a life of Glory to JESUS, as you allow them to fit properly.
